Grandma’s Scarf/Mormors sjal

There’s a party going on, because grandma has just returned from the hospital. There’s plenty of food, stressed out adults, screeching children, and messy relatives. At the centre of all the chaos are two cousins. They have known each other all their lives and they love being together.

In order to flee the chaos, they build a pillow fort out of grandma’s shawl. Inside, there’s calm and room for imagination. There they can think together. Think about things they both like; spices in food, white pebbles, hairstyles, and grandma. But also, on what is about to happen, on what the parents and relatives don’t want to talk about.

Grandma’s Shawl is a beautiful and atmospheric story about strong friendship, love and the inevitability of death. About how wonderful it is to have a really close friend when you lose someone close.

With illustrations by Joanna Hellgren.
