Hjördis at School/Hjördis i skolan

It’s the first day back at school after the summer holidays. The whole class is here. And I’ve already seen Ylva in the playground. She’s my best friend, but she doesn’t quite seem herself.

“What have you done to your hair? Have you had it cut?”

“No, why?” she says and laughs.

Hjördis has had a lovely summer, but now it’s back to school again. She’s a bit nervous, excited and quite sad too. She remembers those wonderful long days with her grandmother, but soon her thoughts are consumed by school life once again. Hjördis struggles with speaking in front of her whole class, reading aloud and playing with both her classmates and her friends in the playground. And what’s wrong with Birgitta B? Why is her sewing teacher being so mean to her?
