We all know H.C. Andersen’s classic fairytale about the baby swan who ends up in a duck family. In Let’s Play Ugly Duckling, Barbro Lindgren retells the well-known story in her own distinct way. Two children act out the main characters of the fairytale with great imagination. They play their way through dark nights, get past teasing ducklings and defend themselves against mean birds. They play until they reach transformation and then, arrive at a happy ending. The duckling has turned into a beautiful swan! The story is illustrated with Eva Lindström’s characteristic and totally fantastic pictures.
