Save Carpenter’s Cottage/Snickargården i fara

It’s a pleasant morning on Seacrow Island. Pelle has just woken up in his bed at Carpenter’s Cottage with his beloved puppy by his side, and Malin is in the kitchen making waffles for breakfast. As the whole Melkerson family sit down by the table to eat, Pelle says, “Dad, we’ll stay here every summer, won’t we?”. Melker answers, “Of course! Mattson has called to say that he will come by today. We’ll finally sign a new contract for the lease”. Meanwhile down by the docks, Tjorven is taking Bosun the dog for his morning walk as a boat bearing three people comes to shore. Tjorven helps them dock and gets a very generous tip from the man who steps off. The man is accompanied by his stuck-up daughter and Mr. Mattson, who has little intention to let Carpenter’s Cottage to the Melkerson family now that the owner wants to sell. And with him, he has a potential buyer! Pelle, Tjorven and the Melkerson family must do everything in their power to keep Carpenter’s Cottage and stop the island from turning into a place full of bungalows, or bongalos, as Tjorven calls them.

Save Carpenter’s Cottage is the fifth picture book about life at Seacrow Island. Astrid Lindgren’s rich and charming tales have been brought to life with Maria Nilsson Thore’s colourful illustrations that beautifully depict the idyllic island life in the Stockholm archipelago.
