Waiting for Waffle/Vänta på Våfflan

Emil waits and waits. He is about to become a big brother! But when his baby sibling, Waffle, is born, it is still mittenweather winter — not spring at all, as Mum had promised. Waffle is very small and has to stay in hospital. Emil doesn’t like that one bit. How long will he have to wait before Waffle can come home?

Waiting for Waffle is a warm and sensitive story about becoming a sibling to a baby born too early. Around 15 million babies are born prematurely worldwide each year, and the book offers recognition and comfort to families in similar situations. But it is also a story about the powerful love between siblings, about longing and hope — feelings that all children can relate to.

In her debut picture book, Therese Ekstrand has together with illustrator Mia Olofsson created a story that helps both children and adults talk about big emotions surrounding a very, very small baby. A tender tale about how things don’t always turn out the way we expect — yet can become good in ways we never imagined.

A beautiful and heartfelt story about siblinghood and children in hospital. […] The illustrations in Waiting for Waffle are warm, with soft, rounded shapes.
