Mardie
In the big red house down by the stream lives Mardie. She lives there with her mother and father, her little sister Lisbet, a large poodle named Sasso, a newly born kitten, and of course, Alva.
Mardie’s given name is Margaret, but she is only called that whenever her mother thinks she’s due for a telling off. This happens quite often, for although Mardie is good-natured and has a strong sense of justice, she tends to have outrageous ideas that she is determined to put into practice. Together with her little sister Lisbet and her best friend Abe, Mardie gets into all sorts of trouble. Mardie’s solace when all goes wrong is the housekeeper Alva, whose warm kindness makes her the pillar of the family.
Mardie has been a beloved character by cherished author Astrid Lindgren since the 1960s. Her stories appear in two chapter books and two picture books, as well as television series and movies.
